How to Choose the Right Painting Size for Your Wall

Choosing the right size is the difference between a painting that sings and one that disappears. As a rule, your canvas should span roughly two-thirds of the furniture beneath it — a 36-inch piece over a 54-inch console, for example.
Hang the centre at eye level, about 57 inches from the floor, and leave 6 to 8 inches between the frame and the furniture below. In rooms with high ceilings, go larger than you think: small works float away on tall walls, while one generous canvas anchors the whole space.
